Fashion inspired from the past

We all know that in design there is really nothing new because everything that has been made has already been done a little differently with minor changes to the styling details to create a new look.  A good fashion designer can use costume design throughout the ages to recreate the current trend or style.  In 2010, the trend I want to pick is the 1960's look.  With the popularity of the huge hit, "Mad Men", this fashion has had a comeback as well among many big designers. I will write about the full skirt with two examples.

First, we have Dries Van Noten's inspired full skirt which transitioned from the late 1950's to the 1960's with it's beautiful construction in black, accentuating a women's curves and femininity. This skirt is paired with the boyfriend blazer and trendy over-sized sunglasses with leopard pumps. This is a very cool ensemble.  Next  is designer Louis Vuitton in his beautiful inspired full granny skirt with full gathers and tea length hemline to give lots of volume.  The plaid in the skirt is made in autumnal shades of rust and varied beiges and matched with a fitted sweater in blue gray with a dark beige fur collar and deep mahogany pumps with a bow and clutch to match.  I love this look and the shades are perfect for Fall.  The inspiration for these designs that started all the rage was actually in 1947.  The trend though didn't take hold until the late 1950's and into the 1960's.  The picture follows below.  The original and now famous picture is of Christian Dior's New Look, circle skirt.
